Cord blood and the stem cells it contains are becoming increasingly important in the global medical scenario due to the ability of stem cells to develop into various types of human cells. This ability has made their use practically imperative in several medical fields that deal with tissue and organ damage. The rising awareness about the utility of cord blood has driven the global cord blood banking services market and will continue to be a major factor in the market’s growth trajectory in the coming years.

According to a market report recently released by Transparency Market Research, the global cord blood banking services market was valued at US$12.4 bn in 2012. Exhibiting a steady 5.60% CAGR from 2013 to 2019, the market is expected to rise to a valuation of US$15.2 bn.

What are the major drivers for the global cord blood banking services market?

Since cord blood and the stem cells that are a part thereof can only be obtained at the culmination of a pregnancy, making parents more aware of the benefits of cord blood banking has emerged as a major driver for the global market. Several developed countries have been moderately successful in educating a significant part of the population about cord blood banking, which has allowed the market to establish a firm foothold in regions such as North America and Western Europe. Not only is cord blood banking a public good, but having access to cord blood stem cells also increases the chances of the baby’s own successful recovery from various diseases at any point in its life.

The global cord blood banking services market has also been driven by the rapid technological development observed in the sector, which has led to the process steadily becoming safer and more reliable. This has also been helped by the active role played by various healthcare bodies in spreading awareness about cord blood donation.

Why is it important to support the development of public cord blood banks?

The lack of public cord blood banks on a large scale has held the global cord blood banking services market back. While private cord blood banks store cord blood for use on the individual and their immediate family only, public cord blood banks operate as a network to supply cord blood wherever it is needed – much like a regular blood bank. While private cord blood banks are the more popular type of cord blood banks at present, public banks are expected to steadily increase in number over the next few years due to the growing government support afforded to this field.

Stem cells can help cure some of today’s deadliest and most widely prevalent diseases, such as leukemia, lymphoma, several disorders regarding proliferation of blood, and several congenital disorders. The use of stem cells in treating autoimmune diseases, cardiac diseases, and neurological diseases is also under trial and is likely to come to the fore in the coming years as long as the government support to this sector remains steady.

What are the major regional players in the global cord blood banking services market?

North America dominated the global cord blood banking services market in 2013 and is likely to retain the position over the forecast period. However, Asia Pacific is the market to be for cord blood banking market players in the coming years, as government support to healthcare upgrades is rising in this region and the increasing urban population is becoming both more aware about cord blood banking and capable of paying the relatively high prices of cord blood banking services. As prices level out over the coming years with increasing demand, Asia Pacific could well become the dominant regional market for cord blood banking services.

The global companion diagnostics market is hampered to a great extent by prolonged developmental and approval period. The need to have both the drug and the device ready to be launched in the market at the same time, can potentially delay approvals. The delays in approvals of personalized medicines deprive the patients of these medicines for prolonged periods, thus hampering the uptake and sales of companion diagnostics.

Clinical societies have a huge influence on the acceptance of companion diagnostics by end users. The views and opinions of these societies can affect the market as they impart education by giving biased opinions on their own experience with companion diagnostics. These clinical societies pose as key opinion holders and can alter the preference for companion diagnostics among patients.

Q. What is the progress in the field of companion diagnostics?

Companion diagnostics have been highly successful in the oncology area. This success is encouraging the development of companion diagnostics for other indications such as metabolism disorders, central nervous system (CNS) disorders, and infectious diseases. There have been discoveries of biomarkers for newer indication areas, which is expected to lead to a high growth and increase the revenue generation of the companion diagnostics market.

Case in point, Exosome Diagnostics, Inc. has entered into a collaboration with Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Co. to develop an exosomal RNA sequencing platform for biomarkers. With a goal to develop a platform for serial analysis of gene expression patterns beyond oncology, the analysis of RNAs will provide an innovative tool for patient characterization to select patients. It will then monitor the disease and track the response to the therapeutic drug over the time of the treatment in the patient. This biomarker platform is expected to be an effective therapy for patients not just with cancer but with CNS disorders.

Epigenetics Drugs and Diagnostic Technologies Market Witnesses Rapid Research and Development of New-generation Diagnostic Technologies

The global epigenetics drugs and diagnostic technologies market has been rising at a significant pace over the past few years due to the emergence of novel drugs and more efficient, next-generation diagnostic technologies. The widespread ongoing research aimed at examining the role of epigenetics in several diseases in humans is the chief factor fueling the market. The global epigenetics drugs & diagnostic technologies market is projected to be worth US$5.7 bn by 2018 according to a recent market research report published by Transparency Market Research.

Epigenetics: A Primer

The term epigenetics refers to the transmissible changes in the expression of genes that does not involve changes to the underlying sequence of DNA molecules. In biological terms, this is a change in phenotype without a change in genotype. This affects how the genes are read by cells. Epigenetic modifications are a regular and natural phenomenon but can also be influenced by a number of factors such as age, lifestyle, environment, and disease state. At least three systems associated with gene silencing, including histone modification, DNA methylation, and non-coding RNA are presently considered to be the key reasons initiating and sustaining epigenetic changes.

Rising Prevalence of Cancer a Major Driver of Market

Research in epigenetics has significantly expanded in the past few years and, with the increased sophistication of sequencing methodologies, it has become an increasingly important part of the process of exploring new potential therapeutic treatments for cancer and several other diseases that have been linked to aberrant epigenetic modifications.

The rising prevalence of a number of cancers worldwide and the proven benefits of using aberrant levels of DNA methylation (5-mC) and hydroxymethylation (5-hmC) levels as valuable biomarkers for the disease have prompted healthcare bodies in advocating the adoption of epigenetic diagnostic technologies. This factor has also significantly propelled the market for epigenetics drugs.

Some of the most prominent FDA-approved epigenetics drugs that are currently available in the market are Dacogen (decitabine) from Eisai and Vidaza (azacitidine) by Celgene for inhibition of DMNT. The market also features Istodax (romidepsin) from Celegne and Zolinza (vorinostat) by Merck for the inhibition of HDAC and treating Cutaneous T Cell Lymphoma.

EpiGentek’s New-generation Epigenetic Diagnostic Kit Promises Faster and Easier Results

EpiGentek, a New York-based biotech company specializing in epigenetic research products, has recently launched two new assay kits for ELISA-based assessment of global DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation. The new arrays, as fourth generation technologies of the company’s popular MethylFlash(TM) ELISA kit, have been further refined to enhance accuracy, speed, convenience, and sensitivity. MethylFlash(TM) has been used by researchers since 2005 for studies in epigenetics as a convenient and cost-effective alternative to mass spectrometry and other conventional methylation analysis methods.

The company has stated that the new “one-step” kits eliminate the need for multiple samples and several steps for binding antibodies in traditional ELISA kits, thereby significantly reducing the handling time by 50% as compared to the company’s previous MethylFlash(TM) kits. The new kits are also capable of detecting hydroxymethylated and methylated DNA to the precision level of picograms (10-12g).

Over the course of time, the improved accuracy and speed of such new-generation epigenetic diagnostic technologies can help boost development of the epigenetic drugs and diagnostic technologies. This will help strengthen the capability of epigenetic results in providing evidence to clinical applications, allowing the research to be conducted for the purpose of formulating effective epigenetic drugs.

Active Role in Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Spurs Use of Radiopharmaceuticals, Market to Rise Exponentially

Radiopharmaceuticals are a group of pharmaceutical drugs that have radioactivity. They are used for the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases such as tumors, cancers, and diseases affecting the bone marrow, heart, kidney, liver, lungs, salivary gland, and urinary bladder. The radiopharmaceuticals market is expanding owing to the increasing rate of chronic cardiovascular and neurology diseases and will be worth US$12.2 bn by 2018, expanding at a whopping CAGR of 18.3%, according to a report published by Transparency Market Research.

The spectrum of radiopharmaceuticals is broadening due to the coordinated efforts of chemists, physicians, and manufacturers of synthesis equipment.

Actinium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Enters into Agreement with Zevacor Pharma, Inc. for Production of Iomab-B

Actinium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company that is developing an innovative targeted payload immunotherapeutic to treat advanced forms of cancer, has recently entered into an agreement with radiopharmaceutical products manufacturer Zevacor Pharma, Inc. in the U.S. The two companies have entered the agreement to produce Iomab-B, which is a radioimmunotherapy to be used as an induction and conditioning agent prior to bone marrow transplant. Iomab-B is to be used on patients above 55 years of age who are undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Iomab-B is a radioimmunoconjugate comprising iodine-131 radioisotope and BC8, which is a novel murine monoclonal antibody. BC8 was developed to target CD45, which is a pan-leukocytic antigen found in the white blood cells. CD45 makes BC8 useful in targeting white blood cells in preparation for the transplantation of the hematopoietic stem cell in a number of blood cancer indications.

BC8, when labeled with radioactive isotopes, transports radioactivity directly to the location of cancerous growth, thus avoiding side effects of radiation on the healthy tissues. Iomab-B can be used as a conditioning agent on patients suffering from Hodgkin's disease, Non-Hodgkin lymphomas, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, multiple myeloma, and chronic myeloid leukemia.

Such new developments in the field of medical science are expected to drive the radiopharmaceuticals market in future.

SPECT and PET – The Science of Medical Imaging

Single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) are useful in enabling doctors to determine the presence and size of cancerous tumors. PET and SPECT work on the same principle – that of detecting gamma rays and building a 3D picture of a cancerous tumor. A radioactive tracer, such as glucose with a radioactive isotope, is injected into the patient. As tumor cells grow, they require higher amounts of glucose. Blood carries glucose throughout the body of the patient but it is absorbed mostly by the cancerous or tumor site, absorbing the isotope with it. The isotope then decays, emitting gamma rays. The gamma rays are then collected by the detectors present around the patient, which then builds up a picture of the positions and shape of the tumor, along with where they came from.

Utilization of a radiotracer in PET and SPECT for imaging has changed the entire process of diagnosis of disease. With rising cases of cancer and tumors and the resultant need to diagnose them effectively, the use of radiopharmaceuticals is only expected to show an upward graph.

Europe Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Market Benefits from Celebrities’ Endorsement of the Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), also known as blood spinning, is among the class of therapies that heighten the human body’s ability to heal itself faster. Although it started making the headlines only recently, platelet rich plasma therapy has been in use since the 1970s, when it was primarily used in dentistry.

Here’s how it works: A medical practitioner extracts an ounce or two of blood from an individual’s vein. The blood is then put into a centrifuge and spun so the platelets separate. The platelets are what secrete growth factors that allow blood to clot and the healing process to begin. The spun blood – which is now rich in plasma – is injected back into the individual’s body at the desired site where it helps expedite injured tissue repair.

With several success stories centered on the use of platelet rich plasma coming to the fore, consumers in Europe are expected to be more open to trying the therapy in a bid to fix orthopedic problems, for aesthetic procedures, and during neurosurgery. The Europe platelet rich plasma market was valued at US$42.1 mn in 2013, says market intelligence firm Transparency Market Research. This market is projected to stand at US$87.2 mn in 2022, registering an 8.3% CAGR between 2014 and 2022.

With Famous Sports Persons Endorsing the Therapy, Europe Platelet Rich Plasma Market Gains Immensely

The most celebrated sportspersons are constantly trying to outdo their best performance. But to do this, they’re also heavily reliant on the use of new treatments that can help them best their previous record – PRP is featuring prominently in the list of therapies that can help them meet this end.

With platelet-rich plasma being aggressively marketed as a cure-all for sports injuries, it’s not surprising that the treatment is becoming popular among sports persons – from Spanish tennis ace Rafael Nadal to American golfer Tiger Woods to American basketball player Kobe Bryant.

Driven by the proven success of platelet rich plasma in treating various orthopedic conditions, it isn’t surprising that in the Europe PRP market, the demand for the therapy in orthopedic applications was the highest. According to TMR, orthopedic procedures accounted for 38.3% of the Europe platelet rich plasma market in 2013.

Use of Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy Accelerating in Cosmetic Procedures

Facials and other skin treatment procedures that use platelet rich plasma therapy as a base are drawing much attention in the skincare and cosmetic industry. Celebrities such as actor Kim Kardashian, who have undergone PRP therapy foe aesthetic reasons, have encouraged many others across the world to approach dermatologists for similar procedures.

A platelet rich plasma facial entails the extraction of blood from a person’s arm. The sample is then spun at high speeds in a machine to separate and concentrate the platelets. The plasma thus extracted is applied on a person’s face using extremely tiny needles – a procedure that doesn’t cause much pain or discomfort. Doctors say that this cosmetic procedure helps the skin build greater amounts of elastin and collagen to rejuvenate itself. The use of platelet rich plasma in cosmetic surgeries will thus help drive the Europe PRP market ahead.

Although there have been some reports that PRP hasn’t suited patients (Nadal, for one, said that he had to stop playing tennis for seven months the second time he took PRP as it didn’t work effectively), most patients typically report relief within a few weeks of undergoing PRP therapy. As more trials are conducted to improve the outcomes of platelet rich plasma therapy, the market will continue to surge ahead, not just in Europe but worldwide.

Could Europe Outgrow North America in the In Vitro Colorectal Cancer Screening Tests Market?

Colorectal cancer, the third most common type of cancer worldwide, affected 1.4 mn people in 2012, says the World Cancer Research Fund International. In the next nine years (by 2035), the world will have nearly 2.4 mn colorectal cancer patients. Korea was the country with the highest rate of colorectal cancer, followed by Slovakia, Hungary, Denmark, and the Netherlands in the top five. These figures underline the rapid spread of the disease and the need to diagnose it at an early stage so patients can go back to leading a normal life as soon as possible. That has directly impacted the In-vitro colorectal cancer screening tests market, with demand for such tests having surged over the past few years.

A recent market study by Transparency Market Research predicts that the global market for in-vitro colorectal cancer screening tests will hold a US$980.6-mn opportunity by 2023, up remarkably from the market’s worth of US$494.1 mn as of 2014. At an estimated compounded annual growth rate of 7.5% between 2015 and 2023, it is clear that companies in the market will continue to launch new products in response to the rising demand for colorectal cancer screening tests. In vitro screening tests are becoming increasingly popular for many different diseases and conditions. Colorectal cancer is no exception.

European Countries Report High Rates of Colorectal Cancer, but North America In Vitro Colorectal Cancer Screening Tests Market Valued the Highest

The market for in vitro colorectal cancer screening tests in North America was in the leading position in 2014 in terms of revenue. The prevalence of colon cancer in North America is on the rise, thus creating conditions conducive for the growth of this market. Moreover, government policies have been extremely supportive as far as the development and introduction of new, safe in vitro cancer screening tests go. This has given the market in North America a further push. The overall spends on healthcare are high in North America as compared to other regions worldwide – yet another factor contributing to putting North America in the top position in the in vitro colorectal cancer screening tests market.

However, the next few years could well see a change in the status quo because several countries in Europe are reporting a rise in the incidence of colorectal cancer, leading to a proportionate rise in demand for screening tests. The massive graying population here and notable improvements in healthcare infrastructure can be credited for this imminent change.

Demand for Fecal Occult Blood Tests Stays Strong

An uncontrolled growth in the cells of the colon or rectum can lead to colon cancer, also known as colorectal cancer. Advances in screening and testing technologies have made it easier for medical practitioners to determine the presence of colorectal cancer among patients and advise the best course of action to treat it.

Currently, the key types of in vitro colorectal cancer screening tests that are available on the market can be classed into: stool biomarker tests, fecal occult blood tests, and blood biomarker tests. Of these, fecal occult blood tests are the most commonly used screening tests for colorectal cancer. Their demand is primarily steered by the rising number of diabetics worldwide, the high demand for screening tests that are non-invasive in nature, and the ease of collecting the sample for the test.

Global Mice Model Market Gains Impetus from Rising Use of Mice Models for Conducting Genetic Research

In the last couple of decades, mouse modelling has emerged as a premier mammalian model system for conducting effective genetic research. Mice models have long remained the basis of fundamental and applied research in life science, and are continuing to exhibit robust growth. Due to the close psychological and genetic similarities between mice and humans, scientists hailing from diverse biomedical fields have gravitated to mice models. Furthermore, the ease with which the genomes of mice can be manipulated and analyzed has also given a boost to the global mice model market.

In its latest report, Transparency Market Research has pegged the overall value of the global mice model at US$1 bn in 2014. The market is projected to reach US$1.7 bn by the end of 2023. If the figures hold true, the global mice model market will exhibit a 6.4% CAGR between 2015 and 2023. Although worms, yeasts, and flies are considered excellent models for scrutinizing the cell cycle and development process, mice have proven to be a far better tool for studying the nervous, skeletal, cardiovascular, endocrine, immune, and other complex physiological systems that mammals share.

Genetic Similarities of Mice with Other Mammals Boost Market for Mice Model

Like humans and several other mammals, mice often develop diseases that negatively affecttheir immune systems such as cancer, diabetes, oestoporasis, hypertension, glaucoma, and others. Furthermore, certain diseases that affect humans but do not naturally occur in mice, such as Alzheimer’s and cystic fibrosis, can be induced in mice by manipulating their genome to study the effect of novel therapeutics in the treatment of such ailments. The demand for mice model, therefore, increases with the rising funding in research and development to find possible cures for chronic ailments.

Mice present low cost of maintenance and have the ability to multiply rapidly, reproducing as often as nine weeks. This further adds to their appeal as models for biomedical research.

Development of New Therapeutics with Mice Models Propels Mice Model Market

Development of mice models for studying the effects of potential therapeutics in the treatment of certain specific diseases and debilitating health conditions has accelerated tremendously in the last couple of years. The development has been so rapid that mice models have become indispensable in the evaluation of both pipeline and established treatment modalities, particularly in cases of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, neurological disorders, and metabolic anomalies.

Application of mice models in drug discovery enables the development of novel therapeutics strategies, target identification and validation, disease treatment, drug screening, and toxicity and safety screening.

Ethical Issues and Stringent Regulations Hinder Global Mice Model Market

The latest advances in genetic engineering that assist in evaluating a drug’s mechanism of action will boost the market for drug discovery. This in turn is likely to fuel demand from the mice model market. However, on the flip side, stringent regulatory frameworks precisely controlling the use of animals for research in laboratories, rising concerns pertaining to animal cruelty, and other ethical concerns related to the use of animals will have an adverse impact on the overall mice model market.

It’s the Big Investment Push for Europe’s Biotech Firms with Immunotherapies in the Spotlight

The biotech sector in Europe at present is witnessing a generous flow of investments from several quarters. This increased funding has given noteworthy impetus to the entire structure of the biotechnology sector in Europe. Numerous biotech firms in Europe are raising funds via public offerings and even secondary offerings. The rates prevailing in the market have exceeded business expectations, thereby marking a whole new beginning in the current century as regards the expected rate of return that the European biotech sector is anticipated to yield.

But which area of biotechnology will witness the injection of these funds in the European market? It is the area of immunotherapies which is expected to undergo phenomenal development and in-depth R&D. Europe’s biotech sector is anticipated to expand and prosper at a robust rate, a factor sufficient to encourage companies and the public sector to invest voraciously.

The Impressive Steadfast Performance of the Biotechnology Sector

Amidst the nagging economic crisis in the euro zone, the biotech sector has managed to steer clear of the adverse impact of the same. Also, the year 2000 highlighted the public financing position of the European biotechnology sector with it having raised close to 3 billion euros via initial public offerings and an additional amount of almost 2.5 billion euros via other miscellaneous offerings. The earlier week saw European biotech firms raising funds that exceeded US$1.5 billion in initial public offerings. Recently, Celyad SA, a Belgium-based firm specializing in cell therapy received a fund amount worth US$100 million via IPO.

What’s making this Sector Earn the Big Bucks?

The funds being received by biotechnology firms in Europe are mainly used in developing technologies and mechanisms that enhance the capacity of the human immune system to fight against infections and diseases. Developing such a technique of fighting anomalies is a very novel approach towards treating serious diseases such as cancer because the treatment of such diseases hitherto relied mainly upon the action of antibody-therapies, which only acted on the surface cells.

Any type of novelty or innovation in the biotechnology sector acts as a driving force for institutions to invest and allot funds to. With a bright investment scenario and robust performance of Europe’s biotech sector, the future seems bright with the investment trend continuing in the forthcoming years as well.

U.K.-based Immunocore, a leading biotechnology firm received by far the highest funding from investment management companies such as Eli Lilly and Co. to the tune of almost US$320 million. The company also disclosed that the funds would be mobilized towards ImmTACs, which the company defines as the next-gen cancer treating medicines with the ability to fight tumors which cannot be treated by antibody drugs. Senior officials have stated that this company being the recipient of such huge funds indicates the faith that the public sector and investment bodies have on endorsing such technologies. Also, the funding will play a pivotal role in further research activities pertaining to the IMCgp100 which is a highly advanced drug that is administered in treating melanoma.

Bone Morphogenetic Proteins Market Expected to Reach USD 587.069 Million Globally in 2022: Transparency Market Research

According to a new market report published by Transparency Market Research “Bone Morphogenetic Proteins Market (Types : rhBMP-2 and rhbmp-7; Applications: Spinal Fusion, Trauma, Reconstructive and Oral- Maxillofacial) – Global Industry Analysis, Size, Share, Growth, Trends, and Forecast, 2014 – 2022”, the global bone morphogenetic proteins market was valued at USD 612.601 million in 2013 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.1% during the forecast period from 2014 to 2022 to reach USD 587.069 million in 2022.

Browse the full Bone Morphogenetic Proteins Market Report: http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/bone-morphogenetic-protein-market.html

To date, autograft bone graft substitutes harvested from the patient’s own body and allografts harvested from human cadaver or animal are considered ideal for healing injured bone tissues. Although, autologus and allogenic bone grafting is an effective treatment of certain spinal disorders, the bone transplantation procedure could prolong hospital stay, increase blood loss, recovery time, risk of infectious disease transmission, and increased stress at the harvest site. Furthermore, autografts are not suitable for elderly patients and allogenic bone grafts in some cases show low bio-activity level. Thus, bone grafting procedures are witnessing a steady shift from allogenic and autologus bone graft substitutes to growth factors such as bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) and cell-based matrices. BMPs have the ability to stimulate new bone formation by initiating the differentiation of stem cells into osteoblasts. The BMP products have eliminated the need for bone harvesting and reduced the healing time. Thus, the market for BMPs is increasing owing to better osteoinduction and fusion rate, which have reduced the hospital stay, consequently reducing the overhead expenses.

The global bone morphogenetic proteins market, based on geography, is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Rest of the World (RoW). In 2013, North America accounted for the majority share of this market globally in terms of revenue and is anticipated to retain its position during the forecast period. Growth in this market is expected to be driven by aging population and the desire to have an active lifestyle. Similarly, increasing incidences of lower back pain, which is commonly observed in people aged between 40 years and 80 years, is also a key factor that is expected to increase the uptake of BMPs in North America. According to the National Institutes of Health statistics, lower back pain was the most common cause of pain, followed by migraine or headache, and neck pain in the U.S. in 2012. Moreover, 28.4% of the population of the U.S. visits physician clinics for chronic lower back pain. Lower back pain is associated common reason for missed work and job-related disability. Thus, patients with back pain are advised spinal fusion procedures, if non-surgical treatment is ineffective. Therefore, growing incidences of lower back pain that requires spinal surgeries is expected to propel demand for bone morphogenetic proteins in North America. Furthermore, in North America spinal fusion surgeries accounted for the largest share of the market at 76.5% in 2013. In addition, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the number of spinal fusion procedures in the U.S. increased by 72% from 2002 (260,000) to 2011 (460,000). The European region followed the North America bone morphogenetic proteins market globally in 2013.

Press Release for Bone Morphogenetic Proteins Market:

The most promising growth in this market is expected to emerge from the Asia-Pacific region due to rising geriatric population, which is more prone to orthopedic disorders and requires urgent effective care. In addition, the rapidly evolving medical tourism industry in countries such as India, Thailand, and Singapore, rise in disposable income, and growing awareness about orthopedic treatment are few key reasons that are anticipated to propel growth of the BMP market in this region. The BMP market in RoW is underdeveloped and has not expanded due to high cost, reimbursement challenges, and inadequate training of surgeons. Adverse side effects associated with BMP usage have also restricted the uptake of BMPs in these regions.

The market for bone morphogenetic proteins is emerging and is currently occupied by only two players, Medtronic plc and Olympus Biotech Corporation. Of the two, in 2013 Medtronic held the lion’s share due to wide usage of INFUSE. On the other hand, Olympus Biotech accounted for less than 7% of the global BMP market. This is because OP-1/Opgenra is approved for cases, where autologus bone marrow harvesting is not possible or other treatments have failed.
