The Mutually Beneficial Relationship between Superabsorbent Polymers and Diapers

The global superabsorbent polymers (SAP) market will thrive in the coming years due to the rising demand from its leading application segment – diapers. The demand for superabsorbent polymers is high in the manufacture of baby diapers, feminine hygiene products, and adult incontinence products. This demand is projected to grow and evolve in the coming few years. However, before we look into this shift in demand, let us look at how this mutually beneficial relationship between SAP and diapers started.

How did the Relationship between SAP and Diapers Begin?

Till the 1980s, cellulosics or other fiber-based substances were used as water absorbing materials. The water retention capacity of such materials was 20 times their weight, at best. In the 1960s, though, the USDA was conducting research on materials that would improve the water conservation level in soils. They invented a resin-based substance grafted of acrylonitrile polymer onto the backbone of starch molecule. This hydrolyzed product possessed a water absorption capacity of 400 times its weight. Furthermore, this new gel substance did not release liquid water, a significant advantage over its fiber-based counterparts.

Browse Superabsorbent Polymers Market Report with Full TOC at http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/superabsorbent-polymers-market.html

This substance was called ‘Super Slurper’ and its know-how was shared by the USDA to many companies in the USA for further development. During the early 1970s, this superabsorbent polymer was commercially applied for the first time, not for its originally intended use of soil conservation, but for making disposable hygienic products such as adult incontinence products and feminine sanitary napkins.

Rising Demand for Diapers and Thriving Superabsorbent Polymers Industry

The global diapers market is driven by the rising number of adults using diapers in home healthcare, institutional care facilities, and hospitals. Several diaper makers have launched products that help adults with conditions such as urinary incontinence. On the other hand, the demand for baby diapers is driven by the growing urbanization and rising disposable incomes, increasingly young maturing age among females, the growing number of female workers, and the decreasing infant mortality rate. Backed by these trends, the global diapers market is projected to be valued at more than US$63 bn by 2017.

By application, the global superabsorbent polymers (SAP) market is segmented into baby diapers, feminine hygiene products, adult incontinence products, and others such as medical, agriculture, and paper packaging. The global SAP market is led by the baby diaper sector, which held a massive 74% market share in 2013.

Future of Relationship between Diapers and Superabsorbent Polymers is Bright
The baby diapers segment is projected to emerge as the fastest-growing segment in the global superabsorbent polymers (SAP) market. This promises a bright future for the relationship between the diapers industry and SAP market.

Browse Press Release

However, it seems that the global superabsorbent polymers market is presently on the verge of a transformation, as consumers are increasingly demanding eco-friendly products. Hence, companies are now investing heavily in innovating superabsorbent polymers (SAP) that are made using biobased substances such as cellulose, starch, and others. This trend will further drive the overall SAP market and diapers industry.

ADM has come up with bio-based superabsorbent polymers that are used to make disposable hygiene products. In 2014, companies such as Novozymes, Cargill, and BASF achieved a milestone by developing a superabsorbent polymer from a biobased acrylic acid in a joint development project.

Concentrated Solar Power Market Led by Innovations in Portability, Efficiency

Concentrated solar power (CSP) is a way of maximizing the energy generated from solar power. As the name suggests, concentrated solar power plants work by collecting sunlight in a large radius and concentrating it onto a small point, which alone carries the potential for conversion of solar power into electricity. This not only makes energy generation from solar power more cost-effective, due to the lack of energy conversion material in all collection points, but also makes it more efficient in terms of the actual generation of usable electric power.

The need for an efficient and renewable energy source in the modern world is driving the global concentrated solar power market. According to research recently published by leading market analysis company Transparency Market Research, the global market for concentrated solar power is expected to grow more than threefold between 2014 and 2020, rising from a valuation of US$2.5 bn in 2013 to an estimated US$8.6 bn in 2020 at a dazzling 19.4% CAGR.

Parabolic Trough Concentrated Solar Power Generators Leading Demand for CSP
Of the various types of solar power generators used in concentrated solar generators, parabolic trough generators dominate demand from the global concentrated solar power market. Parabolic trough generators work much like a concave mirror, with a curved slab of mirrors concentrating sunlight onto a central node, which then transmits the solar energy to be used in generation of electricity. Due to the simplicity of this design, parabolic troughs are expected to remain dominant in the concentrated solar power market.

Incorporation of Thermal Energy Storage to Propel CSP Market
The major difficulty for concentrated solar power generation has been the same hindrance that has plagued all renewable power sources: what happens when the sunlight stops?

Like wind farms becoming useless when the wind stops blowing and tidal energy generation delivering an inconsistent output, concentrated solar power can be difficult to harness at times when sunlight isn’t at its brightest, or absent altogether. However, the addition of thermal energy storage to concentrated solar power generators represents a major step to CSP becoming a viable source of power all over the world.

Plonk-down’ CSP Generators Offer Lifeline to Global Concentrated Solar Power Market
In August 2015, researchers at the Stellenbosch University came up with a masterstroke in concentrated solar power generator design. Instead of constructing the conventional massive and thus cost-intensive CSP generator complex, the Helio100 project concentrated on making the CSP generators more portable.

Browse Press Release

The device consists of six mirrors, triangular in shape, connected to a remote system that keeps the concentrated sunlight focused regardless of the position of the sun. The mirrors on this device don’t need concrete support, which is the key aspect helping its portability.

Designed in South Africa, where electricity is infrequent but the supply of solar power is abundant, this heliostat can be of great use in other regions with similar conditions, such as Southeast Asia. Europe, which accounted for 43% of the global concentrated solar power market in 2013, is also set to be a major regional player in the coming years, due to the ease of harnessing solar power in Southern European countries.

Demand for Alcohol-based Disinfectants continues to Grow Steadily despite Conflicting Opinions over their Efficacy

A study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that on any given day in the United States, 1 in 25 patients acquires at least one nosocomial infection. Despite healthcare agencies taking every measure to bring down the number of nosocomial infections or hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), the deaths and costs attributed to the same remain worryingly high. The consequences imposed by HAIs on healthcare budgets are significant.

Nosocomial infections manifest themselves in the form of gastrointestinal illnesses, pneumonia, infections of the urinary tract or bloodstream, as well as surgical-site infections. This brings the importance of disinfectants that kill pathogens to the fore. However, it’s not just hospitals where the risk of germs passing from one person to another is high – the demand for disinfectants, especially the alcohol-based ones, is also high in schools, offices, and households.

Browse Alcohol-Based Disinfectants Market Report with Full TOC at http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/alcohol-based-disinfectants-market.html

Hand sanitizers are becoming the most widely-used types of alcohol-based disinfectants. Market intelligence firm Transparency Market Research forecasts in its report that the global alcohol-based disinfectants market will report a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.0% between 2014 and 2020, by which year it will touch US$2.18 bn.

However, despite this aspect, there are a few conflicting opinions pertaining to the use of hand sanitizers. Let’s take a brief look at some of them:

  • Food and beverage industry restricts use of hand sanitizers: The FDA Food Code recommends that workers in the food and beverage industry use hand sanitizers only after they have washed their hands properly using soap and water. Not all hand sanitizers are proven effective in killing norovirus, which restricts the use of hand sanitizers in the food industry. Moreover, foodworkers often come into direct contact with blood and fatty materials, which greatly reduces the efficacy of hand sanitizers.
  • Study finds alcohol-based hand sanitizer effective on moderately soiled hands: Research published in the Journal of Water and Health studied the efficacy of alcohol-based hand sanitizers on workers’ hands soiled with cooking oil and dirt. The purpose of the study was to determine if such hand sanitizers could prove effective in scenarios where water is in short supply or in underserved regions where soap and clean water are not always available (a factor that consequently contributes to the high occurrence of respiratory illnesses and diarrhea). The findings of the research showed that the presence of cooking oil and dirt on hands did not significantly shield the antimicrobial properties of alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
  • Natural hand sanitizers are catching on: Conventional alcohol-based hand sanitizers are perceived by some consumers as being laden with chemicals. This has created a white space for the introduction of all-natural hand sanitizers. EO Products, for instance, has launched a range of hand sanitizers that are made of non-GMO alcohol, are free of parabens and synthetic fragrances. CleanWell hand sanitizers make use of a patented formula that kills germs using thyme extracts. The demand for all-natural hand sanitizers will likely impact the overall demand for alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

Currently, the most widely used alcohol-based disinfectants in both commercial and medical applications are: Ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol, n-propyl alcohol, and isopropyl alcohol. Alcohol-based disinfectants have seen widespread adoption in recent years thanks to their ease of use and perceived efficacy in killing germs – factors that weigh considerably in their favor. With non-alcohol-based hand sanitizers still several years away from garnering a substantial market share, the alcohol-based sanitizers will continue to dominate.

Recently, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in the U.S. revealed the hidden usability and meaning of mass spectrometry images. The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) worked with 20 different laboratories from different locations across the globe to study and resolve the issues in time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF- SIMS). According to the study, a new algorithm has now been developed to resolve the issues and enable the formation of better images. Gas cluster ion beams (GCIB) have also deeply advanced the study of biological and organic materials such as organic light emitting diodes, polymer blends, and optical devices. With the help of surface analytical technologies such as time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF- SIMS) and gas cluster ion beams (GCIB), it will be easy to obtain 3D reconstructions and profiles of the samples.

At the National Physical Laboratory, samples were produced and disseminated to all 20 participating laboratories for further study by using the techniques such as X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (ToF- SIMS). These two techniques were used for mere comparison. The comparison proved that with the help of X-ray photoelectron spectrometry (XPS), most of the participants were able to understand the technique to overcome the listed issues and matrix effects.

Earlier this year, the National Physical Laboratory had published a report in the International Journal of Mass Spectrometry. This was considered to be the first major study investigating the matrix effects in organic secondary ion mass spectrometry.

How are the Declining Crude Oil Prices Impacting Global Natural Oil Polyol Market?

Polyol is the most important raw material required for the production of polyurea and polyuretha. It is derived from a nontraditional source – natural oils. Traditionally, petroleum and petroleum-derived feedstock formed the primary source for the production of polyols. Polyols find an extensive range of applications in industries such as paints and coatings, construction, and automotive.

The interest in using biobased polyols, especially the ones derived from natural oils has seen a significant rise in the past few years owing to two chief reasons: extreme rise in crude oil prices in the past decade and environmental concerns regarding non-degradable nature of petro-based polyurethane products.

How Extreme Rise in Crude Oil Prices Paved Way for Natural Oil Polyols
Of late, the steeply rising crude oil prices globally have paved the way for the introduction of an alternate source of raw material for the production of polyol. Especially in the past decade, when crude oil prices saw a dramatic rise from nearly US$00 per barrel in 2000 to nearly US$130 per barrel in the middle of 2008, the need for finding an alternative for petroleum and petroleum-derived feedstock was felt to be most pressing.

The adoption of natural oil polyols in these circumstances was the need of the period. Environmental concerns regarding the non-biodegradable nature of petro-based polyols also encouraged the adoption of natural oil polyols. This has led to the formation of a billion dollar industry. A market research report, published by the market research firm Transparency Market Research, states that the market for natural oil polyols had a valuation of US$3.88 billion in 2013. The report projects a good growth trajectory for the market’s future over the period 2014-20. According to the report, the market will expand at a 9.3% CAGR and rise to US$7.22 billion by 2020. It should be remembered however, that this forecast was based at a time when prices of crude oil in the global market were still high, almost double of what they are now.

Will the Current Low Prices Prompt Polyol Producers to go Back to the Petroleum Industry for Feedstock?
Chances are ripe. The rapidly declining prices of crude oil since the beginning of this year have changed the overall dynamics of many industries. As oil companies continue to reduce oil prices to sustain the tough times, an industry such as polyol, which primarily made its move to natural oil feedstock due to extreme rise in crude oil prices, has every chance of moving back to its traditional, most-trusted source – petroleum. Consistently dropping crude oil prices are definitely attracting industries that source a variety of raw materials from the oil industry, and the situation can very much impact the natural oil polyol market negatively.

Browse Press Release

But it also needs to be remembered that the price fluctuations in the crude oil market is nothing new. Even if the market for natural oil polyol follows a rough growth path for some time starting from now, the market has every chance of recovering its proceeds in the long run. The added sustainability granted to polyurethane products by natural oil polyols hints the bright future of these substances.

As the world begins realizing the added benefits of natural oil polyols above the polyols based on petroleum products, regulations mandating the use of the former may also follow soon. What businesses in the global natural oil polyol market need now is to have faith in the growing awareness of industries and consumers about the need for sustainable and bio-degradable products. After all, the times when the world will demand for everything that is ‘green’ is not very far away.

Global Compressed Natural Gas Market: Rapid Adoption of Cleaner Fuel is Far-Fetched with Inadequate Refueling Infrastructure

Compressed natural gas (CNG) as a clean alternative to gasoline or diesel has strengthened the argument for CNG as a transportation fuel. Strict emission control mandates imposed by governments across the world has made CNG one of the most viable clean fuels. The global CNG market was worth US$56.32 billion in 2013. Price incentives and government initiatives are expected to fuel the market growth at a CAGR of 12.3% during the period between 2014 and 2020. The global CNG market is estimated to be worth US$126.19 billion by 2020.

Why an Average Consumer is Hesitant to Shift to CNG?

Despite the compelling arguments in favor of CNG as a transportation fuel, consumers have not yet switched to the cleaner fuel as expected. Lack of adequate refueling infrastructure is one of the main reasons behind the slower adoption of CNG. For example, in the U.S., there are merely over 1,300 public and private natural gas stations that are clearly not sufficient for a country where CNG powers more than 150,000 vehicles. There are countless stretches of highway spanning hundreds of miles without any CNG refueling station. The situation is pretty much same in other countries as well.

Especially in rural areas, CNG is not easily available. The lack of refueling infrastructure can be traced to the high cost and operating expenses of compression equipment. Though a natural gas compression station should be ideally connected to a high pressure interstate pipe, the reality is different. The operating expenses further increase with lower natural gas inlet pressure. All these factors have led to the concentration of CNG refueling stations in urban areas only.

CNG Refueling Station Development: A Cost Intensive Effort

According to the U.S. Department of Energy, in 2010, the cost of installing a CNG fueling station could scale up to US$2 million. The cost depends on factors such as daily required throughput and the speed of fueling (time-fill or fast-fill stations). Time-fill fueling stations require smaller compression equipment, which reduces the cost significantly but at the expense of prolonged fueling duration. Fast-fill stations utilize powerful compression equipment and high-pressure storage system that raises the overall cost.

Lack of public or private CNG refueling stations presents a daunting challenge especially to fleet operators for whom the fuel cost savings are lucrative. It has been observed that the development of CNG fueling infrastructure is based on four models: On-site private fueling, off-site private fueling, on-site fueling for fleets with public access, and off-site public fueling. Development of private fueling station at a fleet’s operating site compels a fleet operator to sign a long-term contract with adequate volume commitments to cover the cost of constructing the station. Though many third parties have come forward to build CNG refueling stations, it will take some time to gain the confidence of fleet operators as well as individual consumers regarding adoption of CNG.

Special Requirements from Different Industries Sparks Innovation in Adhesives and Sealants Market

UCSB Scientists Develop Super Glue for Underwater Adhesion

A team of researchers at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) last month developed a type of super adhesive that can be used under water. The need for adhesives that stick under water drove the scientists to focus on natural adhesives that work in an aqueous environment. Two chemicals – catechol and lysine – were found to work best for underwater adhesion. The findings of the study by UCSB scientists Michael Rapp, Jacob Israelachvili, Herb Waite, Greg Maier, and Alison Butler appeared in the journal Science.

An Adhesive that Hardens when Electrocuted

At the end of August, researchers at Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University created an adhesive that hardens only when electric current is applied. Voltaglue is not affected by environmental changes and does not lose any of its strength when exposed to high moisture or heat. Assistant professor Terry Steele and his team developed Voltaglue by using hydrogels made out of carbon molecules. When electrocuted, the reactive carbon molecules release and stick to nearby surfaces.

Byproduct of Cotton Production as Alternative to Petroleum-based Sealants

The U.S. Department of Agriculture scientists are presently working on using a byproduct of cotton production to develop a biobased interior wood adhesive. Cottonseed meal, leftovers after oil and lint are extracted from cotton seed, is usually used as livestock feed or fertilizer, but is currently being studied as a biodegradable environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum-based adhesives and sealants.

Latin America Drilling Fluids Market: Environmental Concerns to Boost Demand for Non Aqueous Drilling Fluids

Lately, drilling activities in Latin America have led to the discovery of unexplored oil fields. In Columbia, a new oil field has been discovered by GeoPark Limited following the drilling of exploration well Chachalaca 1 in Llanos 34 block. In late July, drilling operations in a subsea region off the coast of Guyana by Exxcon Mobil Corp. a huge reserve of oil and natural gas was unearthed. The market for drilling fluids in the region has been boosted by these recent findings. The Latin America drilling fluids market is estimated to reach a valuation of US$1,161.1 million by 2019, expanding at a CAGR of 9.63% during the period between 2014 and 2020.

However, the adverse environmental effects of drilling have been well known. Entire ecosystems can be wiped out as a result of oil contamination and oil spills. Offshore drilling also disrupts and pollutes marine life habitats. The drilling processes generate drill cuttings and waste fluids that pollute the surrounding environment. Growing knowledge about such factors will restrict the market growth to an extent.

Non Aqueous Drilling Fluids Display High Drilling Performance and Environment-Friendly Operations

New techniques of drilling such as extended reach and directional drilling require fluids that offer high lubricity and stability at high temperatures. According to the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers, the non-aqueous drilling fluids (NADFs) have gained preference over water-based fluids (WBFs) as they deliver high drilling performance and ensure environment-friendly operations. Earlier, diesel or crude oil was used as the base fluid in NADFs. To lessen the impact of discharged drill cuttings on environment, mineral oils have replaced diesel and crude. Low toxicity mineral oil based fluids, synthetic fluids, and highly refined mineral oils are widely used as base fluids.

These base fluids are less toxic owing to reduced concentrations of aromatic compounds. In new generation drilling fluids, the presence of polyaromatic hydrocarbons, the most toxic component of drilling fluids, has been reduced to less than 0.001% from 1-4%. The new generation drilling fluids containing synthetic base fluids such as olefins, esters, and paraffins are less toxic and more biodegradable than early generation diesel and mineral oil base fluids.

Disposal of Non Aqueous Drilling Fluids: Regulatory Standards Assure Disposal in an Environmentally Accepted Manner

Though less toxic than the diesel and mineral oil base fluids, regulatory standards across many nations in Latin America do not allow discharge of whole non-aqueous fluid into the environment. The high-cost of non-aqueous fluids has led to reuse of the fluid. Depending upon the availability of onshore infrastructure and additional drilling wells, waste NADFs are recovered and recycled. Otherwise, they are disposed of in an environmentally accepted manner.

Reprocessed Medical Devices Market to Register Rapid Growth as Reducing Medical Waste Becomes Priority

Reprocessing of medical devices as a concept is not one coined recently. It has always remained a significant part of the medical device lifecycle in developed and emerging economies alike. Reprocessing of medical devices refers to the method of testing, disinfecting, cleaning, sterilizing, remanufacturing, packaging, and then labelling used or expired but undamaged medical devices, the process being intended to make them patient-ready and at a much lower cost than new devices.

The demand for reprocessed medical devices has significantly increased over the last few years. However, the practice in developing nations is solely aimed at reducing supply costs incurred by hospitals, which often compromises patients’ safety. Several research publications on the medical devices market indicate that until a decade back, medical device reprocessing was mostly performed within the hospital setting by hospital staffs. Not many of them take a note of the proper guidelines and regulations before performing the method. To curb such incidences, the FDA has introduced reprocessing guidelines, which has also positively impacted the market for reprocessed medical devices around the world. The promulgation of FDA guidelines on medical device reprocessing has encouraged many third party vendors to venture into the industry and hospitals have also become more likely to outsource medical device reprocessing to qualified third party service providers.

Browse Market Research Report of Reprocessed Medical Devices Market: http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/reprocessed-medical-devices.html

Reprocessing Instructions Laid Down by the FDA

To ensure that medical device reprocessing does not compromise patients’ safety, the FDA has formulated six instructions. The instructions laid down by the FDA include:

1. FDA mandates labelling of reprocessed medical devices to address all six criteria it laid down for clear reprocessing. This is intended to help users understand and correctly comply with the reprocessing instructions.

2. The instructions for reprocessing medical devices recommend users to thoroughly clean the device. Cleaning, therefore, is the very first step that should be described in the labelling as part of the processing instruction.

3. The reprocessing instructions included in the labelling should also indicate the appropriate microbicidal process to be followed for the device. This criterion also requires the instructions to be consistent with the prevailing infection control principles.

4. Players venturing into the market must ensure that reprocessing instructions are technically feasible and include only medical accessories or devices that are legally marketed.

Browse Market Research Press Release of Reprocessed Medical Devices Market: http://www.transparencymarketresearch.com/pressrelease/reprocessed-medical-devices.htm

5. The reprocessing instructions included in the packaging must be comprehensive. The users should precisely understand how to perform the complete process safely and effectively.

6. Reprocessing instructions should be mentioned in an understandable, clear, and legible manner. Every step must to be followed for reprocessing must be mentioned in a sequential order.

Reprocessed medical devices are available at a much reduced cost, which helps hospitals and healthcare organizations address the issue of medical wastage in conjunction with the increasing adoption of these devices. The Association of Medical Device Reprocessors (AMDR) says that a typical hospital can save US$500,000 to US$2 million every year by using reprocessed medical devices. This is a primary factor boosting the rapid development of the global reprocessed medical devices market.

According to Transparency Market Research, the global reprocessed medical devices market, which stood at US$0.78 billion in 2013, is expected to reach US$2.58 billion by 2020. If the figures hold true, the global reprocessed medical devices market will exhibit a healthy 19.3% CAGR during the period.

State-run Family Healthcare Services Stimulate Home Healthcare Services Market in Brazil

As the demographics are changing in many developing countries in Latin America, Brazil is facing rapid aging of its population. Contrary to what happened in developed countries in the Northern Hemisphere, the Brazilian population is getting older earlier.

According to the 2010 census in Brazil, of a total population of 190 million, inhabitants above 60 years of age constituted 20.6 million and inhabitants above 80 years of age constituted 3 million. By 2025, the senior population is expected to be more than 32 million.

Presently, the life expectancy at birth for men and women in Brazil is 67.3 years and 75.2 years, respectively. To serve this demographic distribution and subsequent healthcare dynamics, in 2014, the health expenditure in the country was little more than US$300/year per capita, which is equivalent to 8% of the GDP.

Rising Geriatric Population Burdens Public Healthcare System in Brazil

Worldwide, chronic diseases are highly prevalent among the elderly, and Brazil is no exception. According to statistics from a study carried in 2011, 77.4% Brazilians over 60 recorded some disease, with the proportion rising to 81.3% among individuals over 75 years.

An analysis of the illnesses among the elderly reveals that 48.9% of the population over 60 recorded the presence of more than one chronic disease, which was recorded to be 54% in those over 75 years. Hence, a healthcare solution to cater to the increasing geriatric patient pool is needed in the country.

In addition, in Brazil, the great distances between major cities in the country due to its large size, combined with factors such as marked cultural and racial heterogeneity, 22% of the population being below the poverty line, and fast decrease in family size as well as dependence ratio necessitate a system that can guarantee social assistance to the growing elderly population.

In Brazil, Sistema Único de Saúd (SUS), the public healthcare system, is the primary healthcare service for 73% of the elderly and 80% of the very old population in the country. Since only 27% of the population over 60 and only 20% of the population over 80 in the country are affiliated with health plans, an overwhelming majority requires government aid for healthcare.

Thus, healthcare solutions that are applicable to the elderly as well as to a rapidly growing population with multiple illnesses, limited financial resources, and scant family support are needed.

Home Healthcare in Brazil – an Overview

Conceived in the nineties, the Family Health Strategy (FHS) program has been one of the most important and successful healthcare instruments in Brazil. The service is based on the idea of decentralization of healthcare, which is provided at family level through community health workers trained in multiple disciplines for primary care.

To support this, cross-sectional data from a study carried out in a city in southern Brazil and employing statistical tools such as logistic regression and χ2 test with different determination levels has established that FHS has expanded the use of home care considerably in comparison to use of the service in association with traditional primary health care (TPHC) services.

In the Latin America home healthcare market, home healthcare devices constitute a major part of home healthcare services. High acceptance of medical devices combined with technological advancement is expected to help the home healthcare devices segment register the highest CAGR from 2012 to 2020, according to a recent market study by Transparency Market Research (TMR).

Home healthcare services in Latin America comprise rehabilitation services, telemedicine and telehealth services, unskilled home healthcare services, intuition therapy services, and respiratory therapy services. Amongst all, in 2013, unskilled home healthcare services held more than 45% of the overall home healthcare services market in Latin America, according to TMR.
