Cedar Falls Utilities (CFU) provides new energy efficiency programs

The commercial developers in Cedar Falls can now access energy efficiency consultants before starting with the construction on their next projects. This access is provided by Cedar Falls Utilities.

During this meeting, the CFU board approved the year-long contract with the Weidt Group, which is an energy consultancy firm with offices in Des Moines. The primary idea of this group is to equip commercial developers with the right knowledge to help them develop structures as efficiently as possible in the field of energy consumption.

Weidt has developed suitable software to stimulate a building’senergy consumption during the planning stage, said CFU Marketing Manager Betty Zeman.

Several representatives at Weidt and CFUwill arrange meetings with clients to propose their recommendations about technologies and materials that can be used to maximize the building’s energy efficiency over the definite expected life cycle.

The total contract with Weidt is for $35,000 worth of energy consulting services. Global clients can access maximum funds for a consultancy, out of which half of the portion will be paid for by CFU.
Zeman said, some of the projects have a payback well under 5 years as energy is the wave of the future.

CFU offers up to $50,000 worth of energy consultancies to existing constructed buildings via two engineering firms: Michaels Energy of LaCrosse, Wis. and Nexant, Inc. of San Francisco, Calif. He even added that it is in CFU’s interests to cater its customers with various resources to use fewerproducts.

Zeman’s bottom line efforts are to provide services at the lowest possible cost.
